Drivers (or transportation ideas)Wanted
There are few times in my life when I've said, "I wish I drove a mini-van." Actually, I've NEVER thought that until I started organizing hikes in Astoria. I really would like everyone who wants to participate in a hike to be able to. I'm limited by the fact that I drive a Prius and can't accommodate everyone. So, I need some ideas. Here's a few that I've been rolling around in my head, though I'm not sure about the logistics:
- Find more drivers
- How to get drivers? Beg and plead!?
- Collect $5/passenger and split among the drivers?
- Rent a van or mini van
- I'd have to be strict about attendance and people canceling
- Plan 10 days in advance
- Issue of poor weather, canceling hike
- Split the cost among the group
- This might cost $20/person
- Kind of alot for a hike, no?
- Hikes with public transportation
- Usually adds 1-2 miles to hike (getting to trailhead)
- limited number of hikes easily accessible this way
Please comment below and let me know what you think :)

Okay. Here's my plan- let me know what you think. Not sure how many hiking days are left, so for the fall/winter, I'll be posting hikes and the first 4 people to RSVP can have a spot in my car. Otherwise, I will try to pick hikes easily accessible by public transportation. If people are interested in carpooling or renting a car, feel free to use the comments section to organize/arrange rides.
ReplyDeleteI've been checking out how other hiking clubs tackle this problem, and it seems like that's what they do: members use the comments section to organize rides, car rentals and zip car rentals. We'll see how it works and come next Spring I hope that our membership will increase and there will be more opportunity to ride/rent-share.
